Driving Through Lake Oswego North Side | The Most Beautiful Town You've NEVER Seen!
If you’ve never been to Lake Oswego, or you’ve only visited a few times, you’re in for a treat. In this blog, I’m taking you on a virtual drive through the north side of Lake Oswego, showing you some of the city’s most charming neighborhoods, vibrant local spots, and why this area continues to be one of the most sought-after places to live in the Portland metro area.
My wife and I moved here six years ago, and we’ve built a life we absolutely love. Now, we get to help others do the same, finding not just a home, but a lifestyle that fits who they are.
You can also check out the full driving tour video on my YouTube channel for a complete visual guide to the neighborhoods, parks, and restaurants I’ll talk about below.
Downtown Lake Oswego: The Heart of It All
We start our tour in Downtown Lake Oswego, the heartbeat of the community. From the iconic roundabout with its fountain to Millennium Plaza Park, this area hosts some of the city’s best events, like the Saturday Farmers Market, the annual Christmas tree lighting, and the 4th of July parade.
If you’re looking for local flavor, First Street is packed with must-try restaurants like Holy Taco, Chuckie Pies, Bamboo Sushi, and of course, Salt & Straw for the best ice cream in town. A stop at Morse Coffee or Breakside Brewing completes the downtown experience.
First Addition: Walkable and Welcoming
Just north of downtown is First Addition, one of Lake Oswego’s most desirable and walkable neighborhoods. It’s home to the city library, shops, restaurants, and even an elementary school, all within walking distance.
Homes in First Addition are known for their charm and premium value. You’ll find everything from beautifully maintained cottages to modern infill homes. The sense of community here is strong, and pride of ownership shows in every garden and front porch.
If walkability and character are top of your list, this is the neighborhood for you.
Forest Highlands and Family Living
Heading a bit further north, we reach Forest Highlands, home to Forest Hills Elementary and Woodmont Natural Park, a recently renovated open space perfect for picnics, soccer games, and dog walks.
This neighborhood is known for its larger homes and generous lots, offering a bit more space and privacy while staying close to downtown. Families love the convenience of nearby schools, while commuters appreciate quick access to Highway 43 and I-5, making it easy to reach Portland, Beaverton, or Tigard.
Lake Grove and the North Side Lifestyle
As we continue along Country Club Road and into Lake Grove, the north side really shows off its mix of old and new. You’ll find established neighborhoods alongside newer developments like Mercato Grove, a trendy shopping area featuring Oven & Shaker, Elephants Delicatessen, and Starbucks.
The nearby Lake Grove Elementary School is one of the city’s oldest and most beloved schools, currently at the center of local conversations about its future. Whether it’s staying for brunch at La Provence or grabbing groceries at Zupan’s, Lake Grove offers an upscale, connected feel that residents adore.
Parks, Nature, and the Lake Oswego Lifestyle
The north side of Lake Oswego has an unbeatable blend of urban convenience and natural beauty. You’ll find Iron Mountain Park, Tryon Creek State Natural Area, and even the Lake Oswego Hunt Club, where local families can enjoy watching equestrian events or taking a scenic stroll.
It’s this combination of nature, community, and convenience that makes Lake Oswego so special, and why so many people are choosing to call it home.
